Our Story
A cold winter night, glass of red wine and a cozy fire in the fireplace. Five years of intensive DIY projects were finally complete. Party! My final project was new oak flooring.
Character grade flooring was picked for the unique wormholes, knots, and blemishes of the boards. While not "perfect" like select grade, knowing how to work with the imperfections, I created a beautiful 1-of-1 work of art. Through the admiration of the floor, I realized I was standing on the name for my yet-to-be-named business.
Our financial lives are similar to oaks. We all start as tiny acorns, disorganized and scattered on the ground. Often many of us start our adult lives in a hole. There's no way around the general slow pace of growth, but some things improve the process. Hungry squirrels eat some acorns and prevent these seeds from ever taking root. Other acorns land in fertile soil and get a head start in the early years. Ideally each oak pushes its roots deep and develops a strong foundation. After one established tree, it becomes far easier to grow a whole network and forest of individual trees.
It does not always seem like it but growth is constant and lifelong. There will be broken branches and occasional bad storms that topple trees. While it may seem like being back in a hole, the storms may also spread more acorns. Planning to sustainably harvest trees from your forest is not a bad thing. Without vision and a clear plan, cut logs are simply a pile of firewood, when they could become a wine barrel or a gleaming solid oak floor.
